Monty Chicola, Founder of Real Vision Software

Founded by Monty Chicola

Real Vision Software was founded in 1991 by Monty Chicola — a lifelong Alexandria, Louisiana native and one of the first graduates to earn a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems and Accounting from Northwestern State University (Class of 1980). A passionate advocate for IBM i and IBM Power, Monty launched RVI as an Independent Software Vendor and IBM Business Partner, providing solutions for document management, report management, forms management, and data distribution — now enhanced with AI capabilities — serving clients across the U.S., Canada, Puerto Rico, and Central America.

Monty's commitment to the next generation runs deep. He personally contacted NSU to establish a partnership, developing and teaching an IBM i and AI curriculum focused on the skills most in demand in today's workforce. He serves on the NSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and was inducted into the NSU Long Purple Line in 2018.

Our Story

From a single IBM AS/400 imaging product to a multi-platform ECM suite with built-in AI, RVI's history is one of constant evolution — always driven by what our customers need next.

1991
Real Vision Software founded by Monty Chicola in Alexandria, Louisiana. Initial ECM solution developed for the IBM AS/400 — marketed as IBM logo software for ten consecutive years.
2011
Mobile ECM and Mobile Signature Capture launched, bringing document management to tablets and smartphones for the first time.
2015
RVI Cloud and Windows Server platforms become available, extending RVI beyond IBM i to a broader customer base.
2017
OneLook — RVI's unified document viewer — released across all three platforms, delivering a consistent user experience on IBM i, Windows, and Cloud.
2021 — 30 Years
Real Vision Software celebrates 30 years of excellence, serving government agencies, medical providers, manufacturers, and financial institutions across the country.
